One full week for the books!

Happy Friday, learning friends!
What a great first week it has been! We have settled in to our lockers and our classroom space and have started growing into our roles as les chevaliers et les chevalières de Ness!

Here's a look at what we were up to this morning:

We started off with our book of the day, The Math Curse and read that Math truly is EVERYWHERE!

We then tackled one of Mme Careen's favourite activities - Les gratte-ciels (Skyscrapers)! After being divided into randomized groups of two or three, we worked together to solve as many 'puzzles' as we could. The time flew by!

We started Français with our "lecture autonome" and then did a sharing activity with our peers about what we would be up to on the weekend. We followed a script that Mme Careen wrote on the board to help us with how to correctly structure our sentences using the proper verb tense.

We ended our morning with a team challenge in Science: "Le défi guimauve!" We worked in randomized groups of 3 (and 1 group of 4!) to build a free-standing structure using 20 pieces of dry spaghetti, 1 m of tape and one marshmallow.
We only had 16 minutes to create the tallest structure we could.

We had many successes and failures with our designs and learned that having a plan before getting started is a good idea. Congratulations to the winning group whose structure measured 49cm, with the second and third place groups both measuring in at 45cm.
We had a great time collaborating with our classmates and are looking forward to our next team challenge, which could pop up at any time...!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
