We made it! The last Friday of 2018!

Greetings, learning friends!
What a wonderfully cozy day we had today!

Our Grinch-tastic Math art!

We started our morning with a special treat in math - we got to do a special 12 Days of Christmas question... in English! 😄 Working in randomized groups at the white board, we first figured out how many items we would receive throughout the 12 days of Christmas, and then, using a special price list, we had to calculate the total cost for the 12 days of gifts.
5 golden rings and 12 drummers drumming are NOT cheap! :)

Next up: our "Le Grinch" reader's theatre.
We all read so well, with such grinch-tastic expression! Bravo!

Group 1

Group 2

Group 3

Group 4

We finished up our morning with a team word-scramble challenge and a Grinchématiques Math challenge, and there was a yummy prize waiting for us at the end!
Bravo à tous! :)

❆ ❆ ❆ ❆ ❆
Wishing you all a very wonderful and restful winter break.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year!
Joyeux Noël! Meilleurs voeux!

Thursday!

Happy Thursday learning friends!
We had a busy morning today!

In Math, we worked in randomized groups of 3 to solve a series of "gratte-ciel" puzzles.
A few groups flew through the puzzles so quickly, Mme could hardly keep up! Whoa!

For the remainder of the morning we: worked through a lesson on the brain, learning a few of the 'inside parts' of the brain and their functions; had one final reader's theatre practice before we present our Grinch play tomorrow; worked on our Grinch coordinate picture and completed a word search of french winter vocabulary words. We also enjoyed a sweet treat while we worked, compliments of Aidan R. Merci, Aidan! :)

Have a great evening! 1 more day! :)

Three days and counting...

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Today is SDRAWKCAB Day!

This morning in Math we tackled the GRRRRR-ultimate Math coordinate picture!

We didn't know what the picture was of at first, but as we began plotting the points, the grinch-sterious character appeared! We'll finish our coordinate pictures in class tomorrow and post them just in time for our last day of classes.

🎄 🎄 🎄 🎄 🎄

This week, instead of our usual "LaLaLa" reading, we are working in groups to practice a special "Le Grinch" Reader's Theatre.
The story is divided into 4 parts, with each group responsible for presenting one scene.
In each group there is one Grinch and a series of narrators who will tell the story.
We will present our Grinch Reader's Theatre Friday morning!

A writing celebration!

Happy Tuesday!

Today in Français, we were very happy to welcome Mme Buckwold and Mme Banks to our classroom.
We introduced the writing process of our "La paix" poems and then started the celebration of our writing. We were divided into two groups, one staying in Room 208 to read to Mme Buckwold, with the other group reading to Mme Banks in Room 205 (Thanks, Mme Champagne!).
Our poems were very personal to us and both Mmes learned a lot about us from listening to us read our writing. We all presented very well, reading confidently with expression. Bravo à tous!

We are practicing reading our "La paix" poems before reading them to Mme Banks and Mme Buckwold.

We all did such a great job sharing our writing with our classmates and Mme and Mme!

It's Friday!

Friday is here!

In Math this morning we challenged a classmate to a game of coordinate battleship!
After placing our 4 ships on our coordinate plane, we took turns asking for specific coordinates to find and eventually sink our partner's fleet. Math is SO much fun! :)

In Francais, we worked hard on our first school-wide writing assessment of the year. Our topic, "Explique comment passer de bonnes vacances d'hiver." (Explain how to pass a good winter break).
We started our writing assessment in class yesterday by doing a "turn and talk" with our peers.
We then had time to start planning and writing our response.
Today in class we continued writing and revising our work.
Mme Careen will now read over all of our texts and make a list of things we do already well as well as a list of our next steps so that we can all continue to grow as writers in the new year.

Thursday

Happy Thursday, learning friends!

Here's today's "Thinking Classroom" problem for you to ponder...

Paint all the sides of a 3 x 3 x 3 cube. Once it is dry take it apart into its 1 x 1 x 1 unit cubes.
How many of these unit cubes have paint on three faces? Two faces? One face? No faces?
Explore for 4 x 4 x 4, etc.

Happy thinking!

Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!
We had another great morning of learning together today!

In Math, we continue to work on our Coordinates unit by plotting coordinates, identifying coordinates and describing the path taken when moving from one coordinate to another. We will be using our coordinate knowledge for a few fun activities coming up next week, and, we will also be applying our new skills in Science as we continue to learn how to plot data points on a graph.

In Science, as just mentioned, we have started learning the parts of a graph, with an emphasis on the independent and dependent variables. We will be practicing how to properly set up a graph with a variety of examples before using our skills to represent our Tomtosphere data.

Finally, in Francais, we continue to read daily and are preparing to present our most recent writing piece - "La paix" to Mme Banks and Mme Buckwold when they visit our classroom early next week. Stay tuned here for more details and pictures of our writing celebration coming soon!

Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday, Room 208 friends!
We had a busy morning of learning together!

Today marked our first "Les chevaliers de la table ronde" session as a school. Twice a month we extend our homeroom time to: 1) spend time together as a homeroom, 2) come together as a whole school in the gym for a monthly assembly to celebrate our learning.

Today during "La table ronde" we started learning all about the brain.
We started by reading our Essential Understandings as a class and then watched this video to start of our lesson : Neuro Transmissions.

From there, referring to an online 3D Brain Model, we coloured and filled in our own brain diagrams, taking time to write down the different functions that are associated with each part. THIS website is a great place to explore!

In Math, we worked together in our randomized groups at the whiteboards to do a "Qui est l'intrus" activity. We originally saw this activity back in September, but revisited it with new pictures and 3 months of new Math knowledge in our brains! Many of us made great connections with the concepts and vocabulary we have been studying. Bravo à tous!
