Wednesday!

Hello, friends of learning!
We are already half way through this chilly week. Brrrr!
Let's hope the weather warms up soon!

We started our day with our monthly "La table ronde" time, and continued with our brain/mental health/well-being lessons.
Today's Essential Question was, "Why do we have feelings?"

After reviewing the main ideas from our last few lessons, we began talking about the ERA cycle.
To introduce this idea, we watched THIS short video clip from the movie, Inside Out.
After watching the clip, we discussed the ERA Cycle that each family member went through at the dinner table. We also took the time to think about some different situations where we have gone through the same type of cycle.

Our next step was then to look at the Self-Regulated ERA Cycle. We spoke a lot about how we can train our brain to think new thoughts when we are in a state of stress in order to change how we react in a certain situation. We talked about the Inside Out clip and made suggestions as to how each family member could have changed their thinking in order to change the outset of the dinner-time conversation. Mme Careen challenged us to think about a time when we perhaps acted out of stress/anger instead of taking the time to breathe/reflect on the situation. She also asked us to be more aware of when we do end up falling into an ERA cycle; instead of reacting right away, we can choose to change our thoughts so that we can possibly change the outcome.

We will be exploring the Self-Regulated ERA Cycle more over the coming days, as well as learning more about the "fight and flight" response so that we can better understand how to be in control when we are faced with a stressful situation.

After out "La table ronde" session, we jumped right into Science and used the period to continue working on our Tomatosphere Extension Projects. Our goal is to design an experiment using plants, where the Dependant Variable is either the height or the general well-being of the plants.
We will have one more period to work tomorrow before a final due date is assigned.

We ended our morning in Français, with the introduction of LALALA 2.0.
In addition to our three original stations of: independent, partner and group reading with Mme, we now have a game station, a listening station, and, when we have an additional adult working with us, an extra "reading with Mme" station. Each day we will work at a new station so that, each cycle, we will have completed each of the 6 stations. Being exposed to french texts in a variety of ways on a daily basis will help us grow our french vocabulary and increase our comprehension of french texts. Magnifique! :)
