Hello, everyone!
We had a great morning of learning this morning!
We started our day in Français with LaLaLa 2.0 and then had some time to work on our
Le Chadail de hockey inspired "Qui suis-je?" Haiku poems. Our goal with these poems is to use descriptive language to describe and "show" a person/object/place from the story. This is a departure from our normal writing goal in Français which is to write complete sentences.
We will have time in class tomorrow in class to continue working on our drafts before editing and publishing our work later this week.
In Math, we began by adding yet another new mental math strategy to our Math tool box.
This week's addition strategy is "Arrondis et ajuste" - Round and adjust.
We then started a new Math art project which incorporates our knowledge of positive and negative integers. Following a specific set of instructions, we will represent a variety of objects at specific altitudes. We will then use this drawing to answer a series of questions which will call upon our knowledge of a number line. Stay tuned to see what amazing math masterpieces we will create!
We finished our morning with the continuation of our mental health / well-being lessons we began
last week. Our focus this morning was the ERA Cycle and the Self-Regulated ERA cycle.
We began our lesson reading the book, The Heart and the Bottle by Oliver Jeffers together as a class.
At the conclusion of the story, we discussed: the events of the story, what 'conflict' the main character experienced, and her action based on her emotions (the ERA Cycle). We then reflected on how the main character could have changed the outcome had she perhaps been able to change her thoughts BEFORE making a decision of what to do next (the Self-Regulated ERA Cycle). Working as a large group, we came up with a few great suggestions!
We then moved on with our next task. Working in small groups, we selected our own picture book from the selection Mme Careen brought in for us.
Our first task was to read our story together as a group.
Next, we identified the ERA Cycle represented in the book and then discussed what the main character in our book could do to change the outcome of the 'conflict' they found themselves in.
The last step of this activity will be to share our findings with the whole class. We were fortunate to have enough time to listen to one group today, and will make time to have the remaining groups present later this week.
Please ask me about the book I read and how my group and I think our main character might handle his/her/their unique situation.
P.S. Any of the above-pictured books are great reads!
Definitely worth checking-out the next time you visit your local library!
